New Delhi: Maj Gen RPS Malhan, the Additional Director General of Staff Duties at Army HQ addressed the Indian Army contingent which is proceeding to Golan Heights to form a part of UN Disengagement Observers Force (UNDOF), here today.
They join troops from Canada, Japan, Austria, Poland and Slovakia who are already deployed as a part of UNDOF. Thi! s is the first time ever that an Indian Contingent is being deployed in the Golan Heights. This contingent will form a part of the logistics support organisation of UNDOF.
A total of 185 Officers and troops from 17 Horse, Corps of Engineers, Electronic & Mechanical Engineers, Corps of Signals, Army Services Corps, Army Medical Corps, Military Police and Army Postal Service form part of this contingent.
UNDOF is deployed in an Area of Separation created by UN between Israeli and Syrian forces. This area is 80 Kms in length with a width varying from one to ten Kms. This area of separation has large number of mine fields.
The UNDOF is deployed in Golan Heights with its HQ at Camp Faouar with an office at Damascus. The Force is commanded by Maj Gen Bala Nanda Sharma of Nepal.
