Kathmandu: Eleven Maoists and two security personnel were killed in an overnight clash with the rebels in Bhojpur district in Eastern Nepal.
''The troops have so far recovered 11 Maoist bodies from the clash site at Hatuwagadhi area in Bhojpur during search operation on Saturday,'' Kantipur quoted an official at the Royal Nepalese Army Public Relations Directorate in Kathmandu as saying.
''Two security personnel were also killed in the clash,'' the official added.
The news could not be independently verified and the Maoists have not said anything about the incident.
The clashes erupted after the Maoists attacked the security camp at around 1800 hrs last evening, which lasted for more than eight hours, the official said.
''The rebels ran away after troops strongly retaliated,'' he said and added that the security forces are combing the area.
Maoists have intensified the attack since the four-month-long unilateral cease-fire ended on January 2 and the government announced the municipal polls without the participation of the major political parties and the Maoists.
