Bangladesh is negotiating with China and South Korea to develop its military and civilian facilities at the Chittagong port as part of moves to strengthen its navy for high sea patrolling and protecting its economic interests.
The present mix up at the port prevents full-blown Bangladeshi naval activity in the Bay of Bengal and further.
While the civilian contract may go to South Korea, which however insists on a MoU for work and payment, China will upgrade and build the military side of Chittagong under a grant in aid programme.
With a considerable presence in Myanmar, a Chinese move now into Chittagong, Bangladesh, could tell on our naval capabilities.
