General J.J. Singh, the Indian Army Chief, will be visiting Russia next week to reaffirm India's continuing long-term relationship with Russia.
This despite the rapidly increasing exchanges between India and the United States.
General Singh, who leaves for Moscow on Sunday, will hold meetings with senior defence officials in Moscow and visit some vital defense establishments during the week long trip.
Russia had previously proposed trilateral military exercises to India, with China as the third participant. This is likely to be up for discussion and India is likely to accept considering, what many in New Delhi believe, the continuing of American policy to protect Pakistan despite continuation of acts of terrorism in India.
Russia has apparently also invited Indian special forces to take part in an exercise with Russian and NATO special forces to be held later in the year.
