The North East is being threatened by violence again, on an unprecedented scale, and this can be traced to two developments, both reported in our intelligence section, yesterday, and last week.
The first worrisome expectation is that the Naga ceasefire, more precisely the ceasefire with the NSCN-IM, which allows its cadres movement after intimation to the Indian Army, may not hold after January 2006.
The second development concerns the ULFA and Chinese arms suppliers. Seven of these suppliers met the ULFA chief, Paresh Barua, in September and October, and others, during their visits to Dhaka, Chittagong, Cox Bazaar and Jessore. Four of these arms dealer are from Hong Kong and the remaining three from Macau, both of which are Chinese administered territories.
