Bush keen to strengthen ties with India2006-02-10 Washington: US President George W. Bush is looking forward to his India visit early next month and hopes to build on the new momentum in ties between the two countries, the White House has said."The president is looking forward to going to India. He has a good relationship with Prime Minister (Manmohan) Singh. We want to continue to build upon what has been an improving relationship over the course of the last few years," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said at a briefing Thursday. "There have been some issues... in the relationship between the US and India but we've worked to change that and have close relations with India. And the president looks forward to continuing to build upon that and he looks forward to visiting a great country and looks forward to meeting with Prime Minister Singh and others," he said. Bush will travel to India and Pakistan in early March. McClellan also denied that Bush would cancel his visit to Pakistan in view of the protests there over the cartoons of Prophet Mohammed. "The President looks forward to going to India. He looks forward to going to Pakistan. We are making arrangements for that trip, and that will be in a few weeks," he said. On Wednesday, thousands of protesters burned Bush's effigy in a remote Pakistani tribal area and there was also a strike against the cartoons in Pakistan's central city of Multan. Sponsored Links
