Pakistan trying to infiltrate terrorists, spies via Nepal, Bangladesh

2006-03-01 New Delhi: There are reports to indicate that Pakistan has been attempting to infiltrate its agents for subversive activity and espionage through the porous Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Nepal Borders.

To check infiltration from the Indo-Bangladesh border, several measures have been taken by the Government which include strengthening of Border Security Force (BSF) by providing them with modern equipment and surveillance gadgets; raising of additional battalions of BSF; reduction of gaps between border outposts; intensification of patrolling and accelerated programme of construction of border roads and border fencing. As regards Indo-Nepal border, it is guarded by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) which is getting strengthened by new raising and induction of modern equipment and surveillance gadgets.

Further, State policing infrastructure in the border districts on Indo-Nepal Border has been strengthened by providing special assistance under the Modernization of Police Forces Scheme.

As per available information, 2,392 Pak nationals who came to India are missing as on 30.11.2005. As per the existing Visa Regime, Pak nationals are not granted 'Tourist Visa'. They are granted 'Visitor Visa' for meeting relatives/friends or for any other legitimate purpose.

The power under Section 3 (2) (c) of the Foreigners Act, 1946 to detect and deport foreign nationals including Pak nationals staying in India illegally has been delegated to the State Governments/Union Territory Administrations. Besides, instructions are issued to State Governments/Union Territory Administrations from time to time to launch special drives to detect and deport foreigners staying illegally in the country.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Home, Shri Sriprakash Jaiswal in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
