Quetta: A homemade bomb exploded near a government engineer's home in southwestern Pakistan today, triggering panic and shattering windows but leaving no one hurt, police said.
No group or individual claimed responsibility for the attack near the home of engineer Victor James in Quetta, the capital of volatile province of Baluchistan, said Police Inspector Jamil Ahmad.
But it is assumed the attack was carried out by the seperatist group BLA (Balochistan Liberation Army) which is fighting for an independent Balochistan.
Over the past few months the Pakistani Army had launched a massive attack on the BLA and there were even reports of the use of chemical weapons by the Musharraf regime on the local Balochis.
Officers were investigating the blast, Ahmad said. He gave no further details. No other official was available for comments.
Sparsely populated Baluchistan has in recent years been the scene of several bomb and rocket attacks, most blamed on tribespeople seeking a greater share of wealth from resources extracted in their areas.
The government says it is ready to consider demands, but will deal sternly with those involved in such attacks.
