Three arrested in Navy War Room leak case2006-04-06 New Delhi: CBI today arrested three persons, including two dismissed officers of the Armed Forces, and carried out raids at around 17 places across the country in connection with the Navy War Room leak case.Commander V Rana and V K Jha and one Kulbhushan Parashar were arrested by CBI after the agency registered a case in connection with the leakage under the Official Secrets Act, highly-placed CBI sources said. Raids were going on at more than 17 places including the national capital, Goa, Chandigarh and Mumbai. Parashar, a retired Navy officer, was arrested upon his arrival from London. The CBI registered the case into the Navy War Room leak nearly 45 days after the Defence Ministry had handed over investigations to the agency. The Defence Ministry had asked CBI on February 18 to probe the leaks from the Naval headquarters, which had led to the sacking of three senior Navy officials. The government had referred the case after reports suggested that the leaks pertained to a high-profile defence deal. The Navy had constituted a board of inquiry after intelligence officers had recovered a pen drive from senior Air Force officer Wing Commander S L Surve in December which reportedly contained classified Naval information. After two months of inquiry, the board found three senior officers - Captain Kashyap Kumar (former director of Naval Operations), Commander V Rana and V K Jha guilty and they were dismissed from service.
