Defence ministry representative to visit Mongolia, Korea

New Delhi: The Minister of State for Defence Shri MM Pallam Raju will be leading a high-level defence delegation to the Republic of Korea in the first week of May. He will be visiting Mongolia from 01st to 03rd of next month and later Mongolia on 04th and 05th May.

During the visit to Korea, Shri Raju is scheduled to meet the Ministers of Foreign Affairs & Trade and National Defence. The delegation will visit the Korean Defence Acquisition Programme Administration and the Agency for Defence Development. Shri MM Pallam Raju is also expected to visit some defence-related industries and hold discussions with industry leaders. The Minister of State for Defence will hold discussions with the Korean Defence Minister on bilateral defence cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.

The Korea is an emerging political and economic partner of India. Defence relations and cooperation have recently been strengthened with an MoU on Defence Industry and Logistics Cooperation signed in September, 2005 and an MoU on cooperation between the Coast Guards of the two countries concluded in March 2006. Korea is a major investor in India. It has developed world-class expertise, particularly in fields related to Defence Production, including ship-building. India hopes to benefit from a collaborative effort, which brings together Korean technology and Indian manufacturing advantage to mutual benefit. During his visit to Mongolia, the Minister of State for Defence is expected to call on the President and Prime Minister of Mongolia, and also hold meetings with their Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs, respectively. The discussions with the Korean Defence Minister will be on bilateral defence cooperation and other issues of mutual interest.
