Pakistan supports Iran's right to nuclear technology

Islamabad: Pakistan has welcomed the statement by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice indicating her country's willingness to talk to Iran on the nuclear issue.

Official Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) quoted Foreign Office Spokesman Sohail Mehmood as saying that the statement by Rice indicating willingness of the United States to talk to Iran along with European Union-three to resolve the ongoing tiff between the West and Tehran over the later's nuclear programme is a positive development.

''We hope this would lead to reduction of tension and negotiations for a diplomatic solution of the Iranian nuclear issue, Mr Mehmood said adding that Pakistan has always supported a diplomatic solution of this problem and has opposed resort to the use of force''.

He said, we have emphasized that all parties must abide by their international obligations and no effort should be spared to find a negotiated solution.
