Security forces all over the country face the herculean task of preventing Pakistan backed terrorist modules from carrying out Independence Day, Pre-Independence Day terror attacks.
India, which celebrates its independence from the United Kingdom on August 15 each year, has become accustomed to heightened security provisions before and during the build up to the celebrations.
This year the threat comes from multiple sources. Reports indicate not only Islamic terrorist modules from Pakistan, Bangladesh planning strikes but some State Governments are suspecting large scale Maoist (Naxalite) attacks in the first 2 weeks of August. Maoist violence has escalated to its greatest level in 2005-06 and, some security analysts claim, has become India's greatest security challenge.
Fears mount in Assam as peace talks between the Government and the ULFA are all but broken. Last year India witnessed large scale ULFA and Maoist violence during Independence Day. Security has already been tightened in the National Capital of New Delhi and various sensitive State Capital's including Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Srinagar, Imphal, Lucknow and Gandhinagar.
Security has already been beefed up along the Kashmir Line Of Control and international borders with Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal have already and additional patrolling is expected to be introduced.
