Malaysian Prince to Lead Indian Army Unit in Republic Day parade2007-01-23 A Malaysian prince will be the first ever foreigner to lead a unit of the Indian army at the annual Republic Day parade in New Delhi, news reports said Tuesday.Captain Tunku Ismail Ibrahim, grandson of the sultan of Johar in Malaysia, will lead a mounted column of the 61st cavalry which will be part of the army contingent in the parade to be held on Friday, PTI news agency reported. India celebrates the adoption of its republican constitution on January 26, 1950 on the same day each year. The highlight of the celebrations is a parade in New Delhi showcasing India's military might and joined by marching schoolchildren, folk dancers and tableaux from different regions. Tunku was commissioned into the Indian army two years ago after passing out of the Indian Military Academy, PTI reported. 'It is a great honour to be part of such a great army and take part in the national parade. My father will come to watch,' he said. Tunku said it was a tradition in his family to train in the armed forces. 'My grandfather was trained in the Malaysian army.
