India Offers Military Aid, Cooperation To Fiji

The Indian prime minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, is reported to have pledged his government's continuing assistance to Fiji in several sectors including military cooperation.

A Fiji ministry of information statement says assistance has also been offered for the sugar industry, health, investment promotion in tourism, and technical cooperation in information technology.

The statement says Dr Singh made the offer in a meeting with Fijis interim finance minister, Mahendra Chaudhry, in a meeting in New Delhi this week.

It says Dr Singh was of the view that India should fully engage with Fiji in order to find a lasting solution to its problems and assist in economic and social development.
