An Israeli Military Delegation led by Israeli deputy chief of general staff Major-General Moshe Kaplinsky, today met with Army chief General J J Singh, Navy chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta, IAF chief Air Chief Marshal F H Major and defence secretary Shekhar Dutt.

"The Israelis got a briefing on India's security perspectives in the region and beyond. Since both countries have a long history of dealing with terrorism, cooperation is now taking place in sharing of intelligence and counter-terrorism strategies," reported Times Of India quoting an un-named source.

This Israeli delegation will be traveling to Jammu & Kashmir on today, and will visit Indian Army's 16 Corps headquarters in Nagrota, which is tasked with guarding the Line of Control south of the Pir Panjal range, as well as Jammu and other places.

"The delegation will review the performance of the Israeli equipment being used along the LoC, like unattended ground sensors, HHTIs, among others. The Israelis will also share their experience of tackling infiltration in Gaza Strip," said the source.

Later, the delegation is slated to visit the Western Naval Command at Mumbai.

The Army uses a wide array of surveillance devices, ranging from unattended ground sensors and HHTIs (hand-held thermal imagers) to LORROS (long-range reconnaissance and observation systems) and BFSRs (battlefield surveillance radars), most of these procured from Israel.

Israel also supplies crucial defense equipment/armament to the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy including state of the art fighter jet avionics, missile defense systems, UAVs etc. and is set to bid for and win major defense contracts in the coming 18-24 months.

Israel is India's second largest and fastest growing defense and strategic partner.
