India, Vietnam Sign MoU On Civil Nuclear Co-operation2007-07-07 Seeking to strengthen their ties in defence, security and economic fields, India and Vietnam today established a strategic partnership and decided to cooperate in the civil nuclear sector.After wide-ranging talks between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Tan Dung here, nine pacts were signed, including one between Tata Steel and Vietnamese steel corporation for sharing of expertise in the field. A joint declaration was signed for establishing a strategic partnership to "diversify and deepen the relationship" between the two countries in "rapidly changing environment". They agreed to establish a strategic dialogue, a joint working group on countering terrorism and have closer defence cooperation. Besides, the strategic partnership will encompass bilateral relations in security, political, economic, science and technology fields and provides for steering the cooperation between the two countries in regional and multilateral fora. An MoU was signed between Department of Atomic Energy and Vietnam's Ministry of Science and Technology, envisaging cooperative activities like training here of manpower of the south east Asian country in nuclear and related fields. The accord also provides for New Delhi's assistance to the activities of India-Vietnam Nuclear Science Centre in Dalat and the study and evaluation of uranium ore processing technology by Vietnamese uranium ores.
