Indian Air Force Commanders Conference Begins At Southern Air Command2007-08-15 The Indian Air Force chief, Air Chief Marshal Fali Major, will inaugurate the four-day IAF commanders' conclave here Thursday. The heads of the seven IAF commands and the principal staff officers at Air Headquarters will attend the annual meeting, being hosted by the Southern Air Command for the first time.The conclave will deliberate on a wide range of strategic and security issues in the light of the emerging geo-political scenario. The Southern Air Command has attained added strategic significance of late due to the deployment, albeit on a limited scale, of air power by Tamil separatists in Sri Lanka and the conclave will discuss the issue. The IAF is poised to take a quantum leap in its assets with the induction later this year of the armed version of the indigenously developed Dhruv advanced light helicopter (ALH) and the British Hawk advanced jet trainer (AJT), as also force multipliers like the Israeli Phalcon airborne warning and control system (AWACS) mounted on a Russian IL-78 platform. The IAF is also poised to float a global tender for 126 multi-role combat aircraft, for which combat jets like the US F-16 and F/A-18 Super Hornet, the Eurofighter Typhoon, the French Rafael, the Swedish Gripen and the Russian MiG-35 are in the fray. The conclave will review technological aspects, induction and training of manpower, salient aspects of strategy and doctrine of IAF. The conclave will conclude after an interaction with Indian Navy officials at the Southern Naval Command Headquarters at Kochi. Sponsored Links
