Russia's state-run Rosoboronexport is in talks with India over the delivery of Mi-17 multirole military helicopters, RIA Novosti reports.
"We believe that Rosoboronexport will soon sign a contract," said Andrei Shibitov, the general director of the Moscow Mil helicopter plant. The Russian news agency said some 70 countries use the Mi-17 for military service and some 12,000 of the aircraft are in use around the world.
Shibitov said the two countries were also in talks to modernize the Indian military's Mi-24 helicopter gunship.
The two countries are also in talks on military-technical cooperation with an eye on a $10 billion deal to build a fifth-generation fighter jet. The two countries also recently signed a $1.6 billion deal for the supply by 2010 of 40 Russian Su-30 Flanker fighter assembly sets to India.
