Chief of the Air Staff greets the IAF on the Eve of 2008

2008-01-01 On the eve of New Year the Chief of Air Staff has wished all the members of IAF and their families his best wishes for year 2008. In his message to all the Air Warriors the Air Chief Marshal Fali H Major said, the IAF is 76 years old and we have only just celebrated our Platinum Jubilee.

We are one of the World’s oldest Air Forces and the fourth largest. The reason to celebrate however stems from our continued all-round growth, your acknowledged professionalism and creditable performance in all that you have undertaken.

2007 has been a year of high operational preparedness and one of the safest. All tasks have been successfully executed. The UN missions have done a praiseworthy job and we have done well in international exercises. The modernization plans are proceeding apace. The Hawk AJT has joined the inventory, even as the Canberra and MiG-23 MFs have retired. The serviceability of our fleets has improved. Our training methods are evolving, there have been a number of administrative improvements and welfare measures.

I am convinced that the IAF’s tasks are set to grow and become more complex. We have to assure the Country of our performance, for which we need the requisite capabilities, the right size, the right people and an efficient organization. Of all these, our people are the most important – they must be our force-multipliers. A lot therefore depends on our professionalism, commitment, character and conviction; which in turn are very dependent upon the leadership at all levels. Fairness, justice, integrity, transparency, probity, service-before-self, accountability and responsibility remain as always, the vital ingredients of leadership.

I am confident of our people, our growth and mission-accomplishment. Let us celebrate the New Year and continue to serve, better than we could in the past.
