Delegates Arrive For Indian Ocean Naval Symposium In New Delhi

The Indian Ocean Naval Symposium, saw its first delegation arrive at New Delhi today to participate in the inaugural "IONS Seminar 2008" being conducted jointly by the Indian Navy and the National Maritime Foundation.

The Saudi Arabian delegation, headed by His Highness Vice Admiral Prince Fahd bin Abdullah Al Saud, Commander of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces, arrived here at Indira Gandhi International Airport in the morning today. His Highness, the Commander of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces, was received by Rear Admiral BR Rao, Chief Hydrographer of the Indian Navy, who was the personal representative of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Sureesh Mehta. The 12 member Saudi delegation is one of the largest.

Coming in from the opposite flank of the Indian Ocean was the Singapore delegation, which also arrived in the capital today. The delegation, headed by Rear Admiral CHEW Men Leong, Chief of the Navy, Republic of Singapore Navy, was received by Rear Admiral HCS Bisht, ACCP. The Singaporean Naval Chief was accompanied by his staff officer and the Head, Naval Intelligence of the Republic of Singapore Navy.

Delegations from Eritrea, Brazil, Seychelles, Kuwait, Qatar, Mauritius, Malagasy, Myanmar, Oman, Sri Lanka, the UAE, Kenya, Djibouti, Egypt, Mozambique, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Malaysia, Maldives, Indonesia, Australia, Thailand and France, will all arrive tomorrow. Each delegation would be received and welcomed at the airport by a Flag Officer, representing the Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy. The IONS initiative is ready to be launched.
