Indian Air Force Implements EQUOLS - Online Accounting System2008-03-18 The Defence Minister Shri AK Antony today dedicated the Equipment Accounting On Line System (EQUOLS) to the Nation at a formal ceremony at Air Force Auditorium, New Delhi. The Marshal of IAF Arjan Singh, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Fali Major, The Chief of Army Staff General Deepak Kapoor were present at the occasion.The Indian Air Force holds a diverse fleet of aircraft, radars and various other associated equipment. An automated IT based material management system was required to account for the IAF’s inventory and stores. The IAF’s Accounts branch alongwith Tata Consultancy Services have developed a material management system based on Information Technology called the ‘EQUOLS’. Before implementing the EQUOLS, all transactions were being done manually using vouchers, manual stock record cards etc and was a tedious and cumbersome forces. The EQUOLS system would be advantageous from the point of view of transparent, accurate, faster transactions at the same time providing for online auditing and provisioning of realistic future demands. In his address at the ceremony, Shri Antony said, “Information Technology has transformed the world into a global village. Physical distances have ceased to exist. Technological advancement has had an impact on every field – aerospace being no exception. Thus we must make optimum use of strengthening our capabilities”. He further said, “ I welcome Tata Consultancy Service, the strategic partner in this project. Military industry partnership is necessary and must be encourage more and more. I am sure this alliance will be strengthened in the years to come. I congratulate the IAF for this initiative and wish you all the best for the future”. The ‘EQUOLS’ has been implemented in two phases namely the pilots site and sense phase site. The initial implementation was at 27 pilot sites and thereafter the application was installed at remaining sites. So far, over 17.5 million entries have been transfered from manual records to the EQUOLS application. This task was achieved over last six months. The transferred data has been subjected to a very thorough scrutiny by the staff of Defence Accounts Department. Sponsored Links
