Pakistan not to accept 'discrimination' in Nuclear issue

2005-09-20 Pakistan today insisted on a similar treatment as has been given to India on civilian nuclear cooperation with the US and the EU, citing the country's huge energy requirements.

Pakistan, in its quest for peaceful use of nuclear technology, sought cooperation from the EU and the US to meet its energy requirements, Foreign Office spokesman Naeem Khan told the media here.

He said Pakistan needed 8800 MW of energy by year 2030, adding "no discrimination will be acceptable" as the country's civilian nuclear industry was under IAEA safeguards.

Pakistan expects same kind of treatment as has been given to India, Khan said.
