The Indian Navy is seeking industry partners to implement next generation networks to enhance its netcentric warfare and operational capabilities.

It is already in the process of implementing concepts like netcentric warfare, Integrated Command and Control, System of Systems and Global Information Grid in consultation with industry leaders in the field of networking and high-end sensor integration.

The Navy is seeking to learn from the industry about data warehousing, next generation networks, network security, ERP and Encryption technology among other things.

"Data warehousing and data centers have drawn our attention as the data that we capture and store has burgeoned with increasing IT penetration. Data mining and business intelligence are also industry concepts that are of relevance to us," said Chief of Material at the Integrated Headquarters (Navy), Vice Admiral B S Randhawa at a CII session today.

"Next generation network and its applications in our context is another key area. IT enabling of our processes and finally security of our networks and data is another major focus of our IT efforts," he said.

Randhawa elaborated that approximately 50 per cent of the Navy's total IT budget is being used for creation of infrastructure and hardware.

Development of applications for areas like Integrated ship management System, Maintenance management system, digital archiving, hospital management and prototype implementation of netcentric operations were pointed out as some key areas where the Navy can seek help from the industry.
