Bangladesh in grip of Islamic extremists, Opposition demands Govt resignation2005-10-11 Bangladesh Opposition leader Sheikh Hasina today urged the government to quit immediately meeting the demand of the 14-party alliance. "The government must resign or an united people's movement will force them to resign" Ms Hasina told an assembly of her party members as the civil society is observing today as a "Black Day" at Multipurpose Hall of Diploma Engineers Institution in the city.Ms Hasina criticised the government for its failure in last four years to fulfill its pre-election promises. She cited the example of deteriorating law and order situation and said that throughout its four years in power the country has been torn by terrorism, violence and all kinds crime and corruption. "How could the government say that the law and order situation of the country is good after 500 bombs blasted on the same day" she said. Blaming the government for patronizing the perpetrators of the August 21 grenade attacks on her rally here, she alleged that instead of identifying and arresting the criminals, the government has destroyed all evidences of the grenade attacks that left 24 dead. "The President gave amnesty to a convicted murderer, because he is a BNP leader" she said. Ms Hasina alleged that BNP-Jamaat cadres were responsible for killing former Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria, Ahsanullah Master MP and former MP Mamtajuddin. "They (BNP-Jamaat cadres) have unleashed a reign of terror with patronage from high-ups of the government.
