Iran is willing to hold direct talks with the US on its clandestine weapons' programme, and when this was communicated by the Indian side to the US undersecretary of state, Nicholas Burns, his response was that America would not submit to prolonged negotiations, but could at best grant that country two or three meetings, whose failure would put on track the decision to refer it to the UN Security Council (UNSC).
