Indo-Russian strategic partnership gaining strength : Natwar2005-10-25 External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh today said here that strategic partnership between India and Russia was continuously gaining strength. "India and Russia share a time-tested friendship which has become a strategic partnership," Mr Singh said in a statement upon his arrival."The closer ties between India and Russia have been further cemented by people-to-people contacts and a myriad of cultural exchanges," he added. "Our economic cooperation is growing and we have multiple programmes and projects in a number of areas of science and technology," the Minister said referring to the 11th session of Indo-Russian IRIGC, starting on October 26. Mr Singh will co-chair the IRIGC session with the Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov. He said the session will review the cooperation programmes in the areas covered by the IRIGC. Mr Singh pointed out that during his meeting with President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, he would discuss with them "bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest". On his participation in the Prime Ministers' summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), he said India felt that there can be "meaningful cooperation between SCO countries in the areas of trade, investment, development of financial institutions, banking linkages, energy and transportation links".
