India working closely with Russia, China, EU-3 to avoid IAEA vote2005-10-28 India is working closely with Russia, China and the EU-3 (Germany, France and Britain) to thrash out a mutually acceptable-solution to the Iran nuclear imbroglio before the next month's voting at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Geneva to avoid referring the issue to the UN Security Council. The issue was discussed between External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh and Iranian Vice President Pervez Dawoodi during their bilateral meetting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting in Moscow, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said here today. Mr Sarna said the External Affairs Minister reiterated India's keen desire to promote energy cooperation with Iran. The Minister also told the Iranian leader that India would wish to avoid any reference to the Security Council and instead prefer resolution of the issue within the purview of the IAEA. "We are working closely with Russia, China and the EU-3 to promote a mutually-acceptable solution before the November meeting at the IAEA" the Minister told the Iranian Vice President. Pointing out that the meeting between the two was held in a "very friendly and cordial atmosphere" the spokesman said the Iranian leader attached great importance to civilisational and cultural links between India and Iran besides economic ties.
