Bangladesh army raids terrorist camps2005-11-25 The Bangladesh army has started a fresh offensive against Islamic terrorists in the administrative regions of Bandarban, Khagrachari and Chittagong last week. While most of the terrorists escaped, their bases were destroyed, and only four extremists could be arrested. But the operation is going to stop due to political pressure from the Jamaat-e-Islami. During the operation in Bandarban, the Bangladesh army was surprised to recover documents in Russian and Chinese languages apart from those in Arabic and Urdu. So there is evidence of the presence of foreign militants in those camps, from Russia, Central Asia, China, Pakistan and Myanmar, apart from local Bangladeshis. The escaping terrorists left behind medium weapons, including rockets and automatic grenade launchers, and small laboratories to manufacture explosives were sealed. Some literature propagating international jihad was seized. This is the first major offensive against terrorists in Bangladesh since Khalida Zia came to power in 2001. Sponsored Links
