Another infiltration bid foiled, Pakistani intruder among two killed in Kashmir border

Jammu, July 26 (PTI) The army has foiled an infiltration bid in Poonch district and shot dead a Pakistani intruder and a militant in separate incidents in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said here today.

The troops noticed movement of militants near Line of Control in Mendhar area of Poonch district last night, the sources said, adding the securitymen challenged ultras who opened indiscriminate fire forcing troops to retaliate.

The encounter continued for about 10 minutes and militants managed to escape towards Pakistan occupied Kashmir under the cover of darkness, they said.

Search operation in the area was launched this morning and troops recovered 14 hand grenades, one anti-tank rifle grenade, one solar rocket and one RPG round, they said.

In Rajouri district, troops tried to stop a Pakistani intruder near LoC in Nowshera sector early today, they said, adding on being challenged, the intruder tried to run away and was shot dead.

Search in the area revealed that the person in the age group of 55 to 60 years was trying to lay mines on forward tracks used by army personnel. Two anti-personnel mines and a wire cutter were recovered from the site, they said.

This is the first time that such an incident has taken place and indicates that villagers of PoK living near the LoC are now being used to lay mines across the LoC, the sources said.

In another encounter, security forces gunned down a militant in Chingus area of Rajouri, they said, adding, however, his accomplice managed to escape in the forest.

One AK rifle with its 14 rounds and one magzine, one wireless set and Rs 10,000 in Indian currency were recovered from the slain militant, the sources said.

Security forces also recovered a cache of ammunition and explosives in a rucksuck at Benali nullah in Surankote tehsil of Poonch district today.

The recoveries included three rounds of anti-tank rifle grenade, two Chinese hand grenades, three booster charger and 150 rounds of AK ammunition, they said.
