Bangladesh beefs up security in diplomatic areas after terror threat2005-11-28 Dhaka: Bangladesh has beefed up security in diplomatic areas following a purported al-Qaeda threat to blow up British, US and other Western diplomatic missions here."We are not taking any chances whether the threat is true or fake... We are taking all measures that is needed at this time," Foreign Ministry spokesman Zahirul Haque told PTI when asked about a letter by a man claiming to be a member of the al-Qaeda faxed to the British High Commission threatening to blow up the diplomatic missions. High security was already in place for sometime for the diplomats and diplomatic areas and concerned agencies were leaving no stone unturned to investigate the threat, he said. Officials said nearly 200 Armed Police have been deployed at the government secretariat complex and more would be added in phases alongwith existing security measures. The British High Commission filed a complaint with the police after the man, identifying himself as Manik Hossain, faxed it the threatening note, the 'Daily Star' newspaper said. A police officer was quoted as saying that it might be a hoax, but security measures were further upped in the diplomatic areas. Sponsored Links
