India, Singapore sign annual military exercises pact

2006-03-08 Vishakapatnam: India and Singapore signed a document containing the standard operating procedures for future exercises between the two Navies, during the valedictory of India-Singapore joint naval exercises 'SIMBEX-06' at the Naval Base here on Tuesday.

Colonel Tan Kai Hoe, Fleet Commander of Republic of Singapore Navy and Rear Admiral Sanjeev Bhasin, Flag Officer Commanding, Eastern Fleet, were present at the closing ceremony.

Addressing the Naval officers, Col. Tan Kai Hoe recalled the growth of co-operation, enhanced inter-operability and mutual confidence between the two Navies. He also congratulated the Indian Navy for hosting SIMBEX-06 with great care and in a professional manner.

Rear Admiral Sanjeev Bhasin noted that the high level of inter-operability and familiarity with standard operating procedures seen during the sea phase of SIMBEX-06 was an indicator of the growing confidence between the two Navies.

He thanked the visitors for coming to Visakhapatnam and actively participating in all events.

The joint exercises, being conducted annually for the past 13 years, have grown from simple manoeuvres to advanced exercises in air, surface and sub-surface.

Singapore ships RSS Victory, RSS Vengeance and RSS Dauntless and INS Ranvijay, INS Karmuk and INS Kulish of India participated in SIMBEX.

Earlier, Col. Tan Kai Hoe was accorded a ceremonial welcome when he arrived at ENC to call on Vice Admiral Sureeh Mehta, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, ENC, at the Naval Base.
