Colombo, Aug 13.: The Sri Lankan Inspector General of Police Chandra Fernando today said the evidence available points to the involvement of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam in the assassination of the Foreign Affairs Minister, Lakshman Kadirgamar.
"No group other than the LTTE has the weapons that were used for the assassination," Mr.Fernando said.
The Police teams which have been combing the area of the killing have so far recovered a grenade shell and four sniper bullets of 7.62 mm.
"We are at the moment unearthing evidence". Police have questioned several people but "no arrests have been made so far," he said.
A report in the Tamilnet website quoted the LTTE political wing leader S.P.Tamilselvan as denying rebel involvement in the assassination.
The Sri Lankan Government's official spokesman, Nimal Siripala De Silva said, "The Government finds it difficult to accept the denial. This is clearly a violation of the ceasefire agreement. The status of the ceasefire agreement is that it continues."
Steps were being taken to arrest the perpetrators and other LTTE supporters, the Government said.
