Russia, India Discuss Military-Technical Cooperation2007-01-11 Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov met Indian National Security Advisor Mayankote Kelath Narayanan on Thursday to discuss the state of and prospects for the development of Russian-Indian military relations.The meeting also involved director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Mikhail Dmitriyev. Ivanov said from 2000 relations between Russia and India began developing “dynamically and rather deeply” after both countries signed an agreement on strategic partnership. “I’m very please to state that the president of Russia will make a visit to India in the near future. We maintain regular consultations at the level of the foreign ministries. I hope to visit New Delhi soon and hold a session of the inter-governmental commission on military-technical cooperation with my Indian colleagues,” Ivanov stressed. In India the defence minister is also expected to meet representatives of business circles that cooperate with Russia in such areas as aircraft building and aerospace security. In his words, the meeting will also touch on international security, the situation in crisis regions and trouble spots where the positions of Russia and India coincide. Narayanan thanked for a possibility to visit Moscow once again. In his words, the Indian prime minister is preparing for the Russian president’s visit. President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India “may be transformed into a great event, which will have big significance for the development of relations between our countries”.
