In a fresh offensive, Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka today drove a tractor trolley packed with explosives into an Army camp in the eastern Batticaloa district killing seven people, including four soldiers.
Several others were injured as the vehicle exploded just outside the Chenkaladi army camp of the district, which is a hotbed of violence between the rebels and the Government, a senior military official said.
The office of the LTTE rival eelam People's Democratic party office located next to the army camp was also destroyed by the blast and three people there were killed.
About 10 others were seriously wounded, police said.
There were more than 100 soldiers inside the camp. There was no immediate comment from the rebels and phone calls to their headquarters in Kilinochchi remained unanswered.
The attack came a day after Tamil Tigers carried out their first ever air raid, bombing a military airbase beside Sri Lanka's international airport.
