India to keep a watch on coastal areas: Defence Minister

Defence Minister A.K. Antony said here this morning that the Indian Navy was keeping a close watch on the coastal waters to prevent any LTTE cadres moving into Indian territory.
He further said that all adequate steps have been taken to safeguard the coastal areas and there would be no compromise on the safety of the country. Antony made these statements on the sidelines of the DRDO Golden Jubilee celebrations here.
Fears have been expressed over last week-end that with the abrogation of the cease-fire agreement between the LTTE and the Sri Lankan Government, and the stepping up of action against the rebels in the northern region, armed Tamil elements may take shelter in the coastal areas of India.
Antony was also asked about the possibility of Pakistan nuclear weapons falling into the hands of Jehadi elements in that country. He said that Pakistan has taken measures to safeguard its nuclear weapons and prevent them falling into the hands of Jehadi forces in that country. We have feedback concerning this, he said.
In respone to questions as to whether he discussed restriction on Indian workers in Malaysia during his recent visit, Antony said he had suggested that a memorandum of understanding that would cover the workers from India as well as Malaysia should be finalised soon to prevent any difficulties in this regard.
