The Australian government has told General Parvez Musharraf that at least ten of the seventeen men arrested from Al-Qaeda cells in Sydney and Melbourne more than ten days ago belonged to the Lashkar-e-Toiba, but authorities are not releasing more than basic evidence to Pakistan so as not to derail the investigations.

The seventeen men were caught by the Australian security service shopping for chemicals similar to those used during the July London bombings, and seized computer hard drives contained downloads from an Al-Qaeda call-to-arms document and details about the banned LeT.

Diplomats said that Australia, like Britain after the July bombings, was leery about sharing the hard evidence with Pakistan, although Musharraf had sought it, which could give Pakistan the excuse to soft pedal the investigations against the LeT, and significantly, the US is putting no pressure on the Pakistani government.
